On this 6 Days Mount Kenya climbing experience, you ascend via the dry and little used Sirimon Trail and descend on the scenic Chogoria Trail. You reach point Lenana (4985 m), the highest point accessible to walkers, and return to base in 5 days.

Mt.  Kenya climbing –6 Days Chogoria/Sirimon Route

Day 1: Mount Kenya Trek Nairobi–Chogoria

Start from Nairobi at around 0900hrs and drive through the Great North road passing the central province of Kenya arriving Chogoria town in good time for lunch. Dinner and overnight at a budget hotel in Chogoria. Approximate driving time 3hrs.

Day 2: Mount Kenya climbing Chogoria–Mt. Kenya Bandas

On this second day of Climbing Mount Kenya, you will wake up early and set on a 32kms journey to the bandas driving half way in a 4×4 vehicle and to start your walk in the bamboo and rain forest arriving at the bandas (2990m) fo a late lunch. Dinner and overnight at the bandas. Approximate walking time 4hrs.

Day 3: Climbing Mount Kenya Chogoria Bandas–Lake Ellis

Take breakfast and start your hiking heading to Lake Ellis reaching the campsite in time for lunch. For acclimatization, afternoon climb ugi Hill (3500m) then return to the camp for dinner and overnight. Approximate walking time 5 hrs.

Day 4: Mt. Kenia Climbing Lake Ellis–Mintos Hut

After breakfast start your hike on the open moorland where you will find different and interesting kind of flora like the giant loberia, cabbage loberia and others. Arrive Mintos Hut(4200m), located at the middle of the peaks in time for lunch. Dinner and overnight at Mintos.

Day 5:  Climbing Mt. Kenya Point Lenana–Old Moses

Early morning start at 0200hr for a 4hrs climb to the summit (Point Lenana) 4985m. After a photo session descend to shipton Camp for a full breakfast. Later descend further down through Mackinders Valley to Old Moses camp(3300m) for dinner and overnight.

Mount Kenya is Africa’s second highest mountain. Above the habitable altitude, you find a rainforest zone, abundant with many tree species and there is some wildlife too. Further up is open moorland, and beyond is the snow line where vegetation is sparse. Finding snow on the equator was a great surprise for the first Europeans to get to East Africa.

Day 6: Old Moses –Nairobi

Pack your bags after breakfast and start descending through the rain forest to Sirimon Gate where you get your transport back to Nairobi, with a lunch stop in Nanyuki. End of our service.
