Grumeti Game Reserve

Grumeti Game Reserve

Overview

Grumeti Game Reserve is a 350,000-acre private wildlife sanctuary that forms the western corridor of the greater Serengeti ecosystem in Tanzania. Bordering Serengeti National Park to the east and managed under one of Africa’s most ambitious conservation partnerships, Grumeti is renowned for low-density, high-end tourism fewer vehicles, exclusive access and some of the finest luxury lodges on the continent. Between May and July the Great Migration sweeps through the reserve, and the Grumeti River becomes the stage for breathtaking crossings where over a million wildebeest and zebra brave waters guarded by colossal Nile crocodiles.

Beyond the migration, Grumeti supports resident populations of all the Big Five, healthy prides of lion, leopards in the riverine forest, cheetah on the open plains and significant elephant herds. Because the reserve operates under a private concession, guests enjoy night drives, off-road game viewing and guided walking safaris experiences not permitted inside the national park itself. Grumeti has also become a flagship conservation success story: anti-poaching units have restored wildlife densities, the resident black rhino population is growing again, and community programmes support thousands of people living around the reserve. For travellers seeking a luxury Western Serengeti safari with privacy, world-class guiding and the spectacle of the Great Migration, Grumeti delivers one of the most rewarding wilderness experiences in Tanzania.
